Can I use minute steak instead of cube steak in your recipe
Jessica
I used beef broth instead of water, i hope it tastes just as good.. It just sounds better lol i fried the steaks a little before hand so my house smells amazing! Can’t wait until its done!
Danielle

When I make it after I brown the meat really good and transfer to pot. I take the left over flower and all the drippings from where I browned my meat. Nice thick gravy can be thinned down with a little water. For my seasonings besides salt and pepper I add celery powder, garlic powder and onion powder mix in with the flour.

Made this the other day….so yummy! Hit the comfort food spot! Only cooking for one, so did half of everything with 3 steaks, using salt and pepper and a steak seasoning blend from local grocer. Cooked on high for approx 4 1/2 hrs, steak was falling apart when I took it out it was so tender. Will definitely make again, but will prob make full amount of gravy instead of cutting in half, even with just 3 steaks, just to have extra gravy for mash potatoes. Yum!

Making this tonight, could not find onion gravy mix so I am using mushroom gravy and cream of onion soup.

I’m allergic to gluten so I can’t use AP flour , do you think corn starch would work here just as well?
Karen
My MIL is gluten free and I sub corn starch for flour all the time in all my recipes and it comes out fine. For thickening gravy and such, just add corn starch and water.

I didn’t have onion gravy mix, so I used Lipton Onion Soup mix. My husband really enjoyed it!

This is tastier with Campbell’s Golden Mushroom soup.

I make this quite often. First, I coat the steak with flour and brown in oil & butter til almost done. Transfer to the crock pot. When all are cooked, I make a roux with the frying oil and flour and brown. Then add water and red wine and make a very thin “sauce”, add a can of mushroom soup, sprinkle with dried onions, cover with the very thin gravy and cook for 4-5 hours on high. Comes out with a lovely thick gravy and is just delicious over mashed potatoes.

Good to know! I was wondering if cooking on high would give me the same results.

Can the steaks be prepared the night before then put in the slow cooker in the morning?

Also good for breakfast, serve with grits, or cheese grits, eggs, toast, coffee or juice. Yummy! My favorite. Country girl from South Georgia.

Doug, you use however much flour it takes for your cubed steaks to be coated.

Looks great. Would like to adapt to instant pot and cut the cooking time. Any ideas how long you would need to cook it.

I have been making this in my old crock pot for over 30 years and raised the kids on this type food as I was a swing shift nurse and gone before they got home. All my husband had to do was heat up the mashed potatoes in the microwave and serve it up .

This looks delicious. A must try

You can use cream of Chicken or celery. You can also use 1 pack of dry Lipton onion soup to kick up the flavor. Hope this helps
