Today’s share is a fantastic tried and true recipe – Famous Butter Chicken (aka, Ritz Cracker Chicken)! The name suits the recipe, This is the BEST baked chicken recipe!
FAMOUS BUTTER CHICKEN (AKA, RITZ CRACKER CHICKEN)
The chicken is so tender, moist and juicy. One of the easiest, tastiest chicken breast recipes I have made. I love when a recipe only has a few ingredients but still delivers on taste. I am excited to be adding this to my recipe box on Sweet Little Bluebird, you’ll want to add it to your recipe box too.
Note: Not to be confused with the popular Indian dish, Butter Chicken – one of my favorites.

WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE FAMOUS BUTTER CHICKEN (AKA, RITZ CRACKER CHICKEN)
To make this chicken all you need are four boneless, skinless chicken breasts, 2 eggs, Ritz crackers, garlic salt and pepper. You can easily adapt the flavor by using your favorite seasonings.
HOW TO MAKE FAMOUS BUTTER CHICKEN (AKA, RITZ CRACKER CHICKEN)
Simply dip the chicken in eggs, then dredge in the cracker crumbs and place in a 9×13 baking dish that has been lightly sprayed with non-stick cooking spray. Last, top chicken evenly with pieces of butter.
NOTE: For this dinner, I needed to bake one chicken breast separate for my daughter with an egg allergy. Instead of dipping the breast in eggs, I dipped it in plain yogurt and then the cracker crumbs, baking it in a small baking dish. She absolutely loved it! She ate the whole chicken breast, which was shocking because she usually eats like a bird.
Bake on middle rack of oven (pre-heated at 375 degrees F) for 40 to 45 minutes or until chicken breasts reach a safe minimum 165 degree F internal temperature.
Famous Butter Chicken (aka, Ritz Cracker Chicken)
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 cup crushed Ritz crackers or similar butter crackers
- 1/2 cup butter, cut into pieces
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
- pepper to taste
Directions
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Lightly spray a 9×13 baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
TIP
*The recipe calls for placing the butter around the chicken, but I opted to place the butter on top of the chicken – it turned out wonderful! Add your favorite poultry seasonings for extra flavor (garlic/onion powder and more).

Have never tried it this way but I have made it with cheese crackers rather than the ritz. The smell alone is so amazing.
Thanks
Abby
Omg this is fabulous!!!!!! So good!

Try Just Egg for your daughter. It’s plant based. I have an egg allergy that developed later in life and missed scrambled eggs so much. Finding Just Egg has been a game changer for me!

Is there something I can substitute the garlic with? I have diverticulosis and am very sensitive to garlic and onion, and need some helpful suggestions on alternative substitutions. Any suggestions?
Mary Neumann
Hi Melissa, you can use your favorite chicken seasonings, this recipe is super easy to adapt.

If i used checked tenders instead of whole breasts, how long do you think i would need to bake them?
Christy Johnson
This is delicious! I added parmesan cheese to the ritz and oh my it is yummy!

I use Club crackers in place of Ritz. Use half the butter called for. Sometime I stuff the chicken with spinach and cheese and follow the recipe. Excellent

I made this recipe yesterday and I loved it. The chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Will make it again in the future. Thanks

FYI….I’ve been making ritz cracker chicken for years and looked at your recipe because I saw the eggs in it. I’ve never used eggs so I was curious. Seeing your daughter has an egg allergy, thought I’d let you know how I’ve always done it. Melt the butter and dip the chicken in the melted butter and then roll in the ritz crackers! I am going to try your egg version just to see how I like it. I usually cut my chicken into large bite size pieces before dipping and rolling….chicken nugget size. Bake in 350 degree oven and it is one of my favorite ways to make crispy chicken nuggets! I don’t even use any spices (but will try that too) and it is still delish! Enjoy!

The chicken was so easy to make. We loved it and will definitely make it again. Thank you for sharing.

I gotta say that I changed the recipe up…as I didnt come across this version until after. I soaked 2 chicken thighs in seasoned buttermilk overnight. ( used garlic powder, onion powder & a no salt mix of other of my fave spices)
I did not use the egg…but the new/old idea of crushed Ritz crackers was a great coating. I did dot with butter and baked til an internal temp of 165 for about 40 min. Soooo tender, tasty and amazing!!
I did a baked potato with all the trimmings & green beans with a splash of balsamic vinegar & ,roasted garlic.
Thank you for reinventing the Ritz coating! This was amazing!!

Such a yummy recipe! It is one that I make often because the crackers are just delicious on the chicken! It is also super easy to make. It really doesn’t require much work. Pair it with some of your favorite sides or a salad! Yummy!

Can I use chicken thighs

My husband and I both loved this chicken. It was like eating Chicken Kiev without the butter stuffed inside. I roasted veggies in foil next to the chicken, added a salad and dinner was served.
Joyce
This was fantastic and easy

I used it on fish, too! It was delicious.

I add a little honey on the top of the chicken before putting the Ritz crumbs on top and use garlic powder instead if salt. This is one of our favorite chicken recipes!!
Leah
Do you use the honey instead of the egg?
Debbie
Hi. Can you use boneless chicken thighs instead of breast?
Mary Neumann
Sure, those work too.
Pam
This is awesome with vegetable flavored Ritz.
