Today’s share is a fantastic tried and true recipe – Famous Butter Chicken (aka, Ritz Cracker Chicken)! The name suits the recipe, This is the BEST baked chicken recipe!
FAMOUS BUTTER CHICKEN (AKA, RITZ CRACKER CHICKEN)
The chicken is so tender, moist and juicy. One of the easiest, tastiest chicken breast recipes I have made. I love when a recipe only has a few ingredients but still delivers on taste. I am excited to be adding this to my recipe box on Sweet Little Bluebird, you’ll want to add it to your recipe box too.
Note: Not to be confused with the popular Indian dish, Butter Chicken – one of my favorites.

WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE FAMOUS BUTTER CHICKEN (AKA, RITZ CRACKER CHICKEN)
To make this chicken all you need are four boneless, skinless chicken breasts, 2 eggs, Ritz crackers, garlic salt and pepper. You can easily adapt the flavor by using your favorite seasonings.
HOW TO MAKE FAMOUS BUTTER CHICKEN (AKA, RITZ CRACKER CHICKEN)
Simply dip the chicken in eggs, then dredge in the cracker crumbs and place in a 9×13 baking dish that has been lightly sprayed with non-stick cooking spray. Last, top chicken evenly with pieces of butter.
NOTE: For this dinner, I needed to bake one chicken breast separate for my daughter with an egg allergy. Instead of dipping the breast in eggs, I dipped it in plain yogurt and then the cracker crumbs, baking it in a small baking dish. She absolutely loved it! She ate the whole chicken breast, which was shocking because she usually eats like a bird.
Bake on middle rack of oven (pre-heated at 375 degrees F) for 40 to 45 minutes or until chicken breasts reach a safe minimum 165 degree F internal temperature.
Famous Butter Chicken (aka, Ritz Cracker Chicken)
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 cup crushed Ritz crackers or similar butter crackers
- 1/2 cup butter, cut into pieces
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
- pepper to taste
Directions
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Lightly spray a 9×13 baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
TIP
*The recipe calls for placing the butter around the chicken, but I opted to place the butter on top of the chicken – it turned out wonderful! Add your favorite poultry seasonings for extra flavor (garlic/onion powder and more).

This was amazing! I added a shake of red pepper flakes to cracker crumbs and grated Parmesan and a shake of smoked paprika too but it was so moist and delicious! Thanks for sharing!

This might be a random question, but what set are you using for the bread crumbs and eggs? It looks like the perfect size.
Making this tonight! Can’t wait!
Stephanie
I am currently making this tonight for our “chicken” night. It smells amazing. I am pairing it with white rice, and some buttery green beans.

Absolutely the best. A bit salty, but oh so good and different. Hubby is very pickie eater, doesnt. do beef, very little fish, so primarily chic and pork. And pasta! Have been able to order meat and produce and get it delivered locally. Chic breast was pounded out thin, took about 1/2 hour to bake, fresh green beans and jasmine rice.
Definitely a keeper!

Egg wash wasn’t doing for me anymore so I started brushing Mayonnaise on and then coating with Panko. Works great and Panko STICKS to the chicken
Megan
I did put parmesan cheese in with the cracker crumbs, along with my chicken seasonings. I cooked it at 400° for 40 mins. Super easy and delicious! 😋

Is there a way to use chicken tenderloin?
Angie
I made this chicken for dinner tonight. It was delicious and was liked by all—even my picky eaters. I did put oven up to 390 after about 30 mins as I didn’t think it would be done in 45 min. It was perfect in about an hour. I made it exactly as stated in recipe adding in my favorite chicken seasoning. I will definitely be making it again. The chicken was so tender and I loved the crunchy outside.
Laura
I’m making this right now, but 375 for 45 mins is definitely not long enough. Going on an hour and it’s still quite raw. Turning the temp up to 400. It does smell fab though.

I have found if you cut the large chicken breasts in half that will shorten the cooking time. I do this when I make French’s Onion crusted chicken. Sometimes I use chicken tenders which cook very fast!

It is frustrating to not be able to print the recipe with the picture on it.

will this recipe work with frozen chicken as well?
Mary Neumann
You will want to defrost the chicken first. If it’s a bag of frozen chicken, often they are filled with liquid so there may be a lot of liquid.
Danielle
Do you have to flip the chicken while cooking?
Teresa Reichek
Try this chicken with lemon butter sauce on top, it’s amazing!

This dish can also be either topped off w a quick homemade creamy lemon/sugar butter sauce, or served on the side! This is the only way I make this recipe. Delicious! Sweet Cracker Chicken.

You said that you added this recipe to your Little Bluebird site. Can you tell me how to do this. I am a grandma that is not too good with technology but I would love to know how to do that. Thank you for any help you can offer!

I have this in the oven as I’m typing. A friend of mine makes one similar to this but no egg, she pounds the chicken thin and dips it in melted butter then ritz crackers with Parmesan cheese , and seasonings. Yum!

This was the best chicken I’ve ever had.
Mona Porter
I thought it was great. I just cook up the leftovers and made chicken salad but I think it would have made delicious sliced chicken sandwiches also. Very moist and flovorful.
Tammy
