Oven-Fried Chicken – Tried and True

This week’s Tried & True is Ina Garten’s (Barefoot Contessa), Oven-Fried Chicken. This is a favorite of my brother-in-law’s. After having it, I can see why. So simple to make, so good.

My sister made this surprise dinner for her husband during my visit in Alaska. I love how simple it was to make. The recipe calls for marinating the chicken in buttermilk (my sister marinated it overnight), flouring, lightly frying the chicken in a pan until it just starts to turn a golden brown (just a few minutes on each side) – then popping the chicken in the oven to “fry” the rest of the way. 5 simple steps.
This is so much easier than standing over the stove waiting for chicken to cook all the way through. The outside of the chicken is super crispy and the inside is moist, tender, delicious – hot and ready! This is a great way to make fried chicken for a large family like my sisters. I give this recipe 5 stars!
NOTE: This is not a sponsored post, I am just a fan of this recipe and Ina. When I share a tried and true recipe, I always credit the source and often will send you to the site for the directions. All you need to do is click on “Print Recipe” below and it will take you to the full recipe. One extra step for an awesome recipe, that’s it! It’s important to me to share the love and send you to the original source.

Ummm……..the directions on Food Network are for fried chicken on the stove, not in the oven. Is there a reason why you didn’t put the directions on your recipe?

        Hello Linda,

This Ina Garten recipe for “Oven Fried Chicken” is a favorite! It starts out on the stove, frying the chicken for just a few minutes on each side, getting a crispy coating. You then finish cooking/”frying” in the oven for the best fried chicken! Perfect, tender, juicy chicken that’s ready all at once. It’s a great way to feed a crowd. In my post, I note the reason I do not share the full recipe – it is not mine. This is a tried and true review from Sept 9, 2013.

Kinda looks a bit less fatty than the usual grill or pan/deep fried chicken. Might give this a try and see it it’s as good.

Your link wouldn’t let me into the page when I clicked on “Food Network” or “Ina Gaarten” , but when I click on the “Oven-Fried Chicken” it let me in. Just to let you know. I’ve made this before and lost the recipe. So thanks for finding it again. It is a super way to “fry” chicken and much more healthy.

You have integrity and I appreciate and respect that. So many bloggers change one ingredients by a fourth of a teaspoon in a recipe then claim it as their own. :/ I'm a fan. Thank you!
