Today’s recipe is a family favorite go-to meal that’s simple to make and so delicious – Slow Cooker Smothered Beef Tips with Mushroom and Onion Gravy!

SLOW COOKER SMOTHERED BEEF TIPS with MUSHROOM and ONION GRAVY

Tender chunks of stew beef are slow-cooked in a rich mushroom and onion gravy, cooked to tender perfection in the slow cooker. Serve over egg noodles, mashed potatoes, or rice for a hassle-free meal the whole family will love.

What You Need to Make Slow Cooker Smothered Beef Tips

Stew beef chunks, cream of mushroom soup, dry onion soup mix, salt, and pepper to taste.

Optional additions, browning beef, mushrooms, and red wine – highly recommended!

This recipe is super easy to adapt, which comes in handy if you have picky eaters. If you have time, browning the beef first adds great flavor. I also like to add red wine and mushrooms.

    Directions

Lightly spray the cooker with non-stick cooking spray.

Brown beef (optional). In a medium-sized bowl, add canned mushroom soup, dry onion soup, and water, mix well, then pour the mixture over beef tips, top with mushrooms (optional), and stir, coating evenly.

Tips – This recipe is super easy to adapt depending on your taste and time.

    • If you have time, browning the beef in oil FIRST adds wonderful flavor.

    •  Make homemade condensed cream of mushroom soup, using an equivalent amount
    • Make homemade dry onion soup mix

Do you have to pre-cook the additional mushrooms or add them uncooked?

Patti, you do not pre-cook the mushrooms, just toss them in. 🙂
