How to Make Foaming Hand Soap

Today I was getting ready to refill my foaming hand soap and decided to grab my cell phone, snap a few photos and show you how you can easily make your own! Making it at home is as easy as 1-2-3!

How to Make Foaming Hand Soap

I am a compulsive hand washer and can easily go through one bottle of hand soap a week in my kitchen…easily. I love Bath & Body Works. Not only that, but I love their foaming hand soaps. The problem for me, I go through my kitchen hand soap so fast, and I hate when I run out. One day I decided to see if I could make my own using my empty foaming soap container. All I did was add a little liquid dish soap and water and shook it up…IT WORKED PERFECT! Now I never run out of hand soap. Oh, and I can wash my dishes too – happy dance!

Original Post Date, March 25, 2012

This is a 4 photo collage showing pictures making the foaming hand soap.

WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE IT YOURSELF

Making your own foaming hand soap is so simple. All you need is an empty foaming soap dispenser (I use Bath & Body Works), and a bottle of Liquid Dish Soap or Liquid Hand Soap – you can use any scent – I love lemon for the kitchen.

HOW TO MAKE FOAMING HAND SOAP

Add 1 inch (or a little more if you like) of liquid dish soap to your container. Fill the remainder with water, shake it up, and it’s ready to go!

This is a photo of a soap dispenser (from Bath and Body Works) and a bottle of liquid lemon dish soap.
(Grab an empty dispenser & liquid dish or hand soap)

(fill dispenser with 1 inch of liquid soap)
This photo shows the foaming soap dispenser being filled with water from a faucet in a kitchen sink.

(Replace cap, shake and done! Your foaming hand soap is ready to go!)

I’ve used the same dispenser for almost a year. I never run out. I can wash my hands and my dishes!  Saves me time and money!  When it gets grubby, I’ll just grab a new one from Bath & Body Works.

I use shampoo and bath gels. Work s great. I recieved some bath gels that made my legs and body itch, but didn't bother my hands, also had shampoo that I didn't care for. So instead of throwing it out , I made my own foaming hand soap.

I add the water, then put in the soap. That keeps the soap from foaming so much as you ad the water. I leave about 3/4 of an inch at the top for shaking well. I also have used the non foaming soap or shower gel and add water in foaming dispenser.

I do this with Dr Bronners. I add just a tad of soap and some water and get a great foaming hand soap.

I do this with liquid refill hand soap from the Dollar Tree. I get 32 oz. of liquid soap for $1, which, with a similar method to this, fills my foaming soap dispenser (I reuse a dial brand one) 16 times!

16 bottles of hand soap for $1.00?! Nowhere else will you get that good of a deal.

I love this idea! I ran out of foaming soap tonight and had some body gel in the same scent. Followed your instructions and now I have more awesome soap! Thanks!

Last time I bought from Bath & Body, I got extra bottles of shower gel in the scent I LOVE. Haven't tried it yet but my plan was to mix this with water to make my own foaming hand soap since a 10 oz bottle will make several refills of the foaming dispenser I got from them last time.

I do something similar for my oldest. He will use a whole bottle of body wash in one sitting. I took an empty bottle, added a little soap, added water, and shook it up. and he will use the whole bottle in one sitting, but less soap.

I buy BBW body wash when it goes on a super sale or closeout and use that. I peel off the bottle labels and use Goo Gone to remove the sticky glue. It's wonderful! I never thought to use dish soap!! Thank you for a great new idea! Lemon is my favorite in the kitchen too 🙂

I love the BBW smells and they don't irritate my hands. But I see from above the gels are the reason my foam pump keeps failing, because of the beads & Specks. Does anyone know of a hand soap that is mild and non irritating? Thanks

if B&BW has the same or similar scent you like as a body wash, you can use that!

I buy the Method clear gel refill at Target (no triclosan). I find mine works better when well blended, so I mix it up in a bigger bottle ahead of time and add a drop of food color to make it the color I want so it looks like it came in the pump bottle. Works great for me.

I buy my essential oils on Amazon. There is a whole array of various types of oils you can purchase to your hearts content.

They are available at your local craft stores. For example… Michael's,Ben Franklin, Ac Moore, Etc. However I would only use purely organic with no additives and those you would need to order online through a specialty store or if you have local stores that sell these items you can get them there, generally it is only specialty grocery stores.

I realize we all like to have a pleasant smell but keep in mind that oil you may be putting in there may be harmful to animals, children or yourself. You may have a reaction, that is why I use only "PURE ORGANIC NO ADDITIVE OILS" There are certain stores that carry these as well, so you won't have to order online and that is stores like "Good Foods Grocery".

I HIGHLY recommend you NOT use oils found at the dollar tree or stores like that, due to the additives and none of the oils are monitored for consistency as they are imported. Keep in mind there is a reason it is only $1.00 before you buy it and remember this one thing…. "First And Foremost, Family Safety Comes First. 🙂
