Technically, Miracle Whip is not mayonnaise – but to many people it is…so it’s included. I grew up referring to Miracle Whip as mayo, using it like mayo. Here is the reason it’s TECHNICALLY not mayo: Miracle Whip Vs. Mayonnaise
My favorite sandwich growing up was super soft white Wonder bread, a slice of American cheese and both sides of the bread with a layer of Miracle Whip. The BEST cheese sandwich.
After sharing my Tomato Sandwich post yesterday, many people left comments on Facebook stating I should use Duke’s Mayo, NOT Hellmann’s. I grew up in Michigan and never heard of Duke’s Mayonnaise, it wasn’t even available in stores. I only learned about Duke’s when I started blogging and following southern food bloggers. When I moved to Georgia a few months ago, the first thing on my list was to purchase some Duke’s mayo, to find out what the fuss was all about…and I must say, I prefer Hellmann’s. I’m sure those are some fighting words. Ha!
Even though I prefer Hellmann’s over Duke’s, I recently purchased Duke’s Tartar Sauce – HOLY SMOKES IT’S SO DARN GOOD!! The best tartar sauce I’ve ever purchased, better than most homemade!! If you see this in the store, grab a jar, you can thank me later.
Thanks for stopping!
Cheers!

I grew up in Ohio and I had never heard of Dukes. Actually, I had never heard of a tomato sandwich until I moved to DC then NC. I was taught to use Miracle Whip because it’s sweeter. That’s about all I use Miracle Whip for. My first choice is Hellman’s (except for tomato sandwiches) and I’m not a fan of Duke’s at all.

We were in Fla and had lunch and I asked for mayo on the side and it must have been Dukes because I hated it and didn’t use it.. it was sweet.. and they said it wasn’t Miracle Whip.. but it sure wasn’t Kens or Hellmans

Hellmans is the only mayo I will use.. Miracle Whip is disgusting.. never tried Dukes but why mess with perfection

I was born and lived in Georgia all my life. I don’t know one person who likes or uses Dukes mayo. That is the nastiest I have ever tasted. Everyone i know uses Blue Plate and we can accept Hellman’s if there is no Blue Plate. Most people I know won’t use Miracle Whip but I use it to make deviled eggs.

Duke’s without a doubt!!!

I’m born and raised in North Carolina and I prefer Helmanns over Dukes too. Dukes is too sweet to me. I like the tartness of Helmanns

I have said for the last 8to 10 years that Maricle Whip is not the same that I grew up with. They came out with the new but really the real recipe about a year ago. And it is good. The one that is marked original is not the real original. It is deceiving.

I'm from Australia and Miracle Whip is the best by far..BUT..Coles and Woolworths no longer sell it..some small IGA shops still do..BUT..now that Kraft have relabelled as Heinz, there is no Miracle Whip/Kraft Mayo on any shelves that I have seen..not happy and am using my last bottle sparingly 🙁

Miracle Whip for this girl specially on sandwiches. Something things I can stand mayo in but they are things with lots of other flavors. But I cannot do mayo on a sandwich no matter how many times I've tried. I also ask for it by name. I can understand different people liking a different condiment but I cannot get the people that will tell you there is no difference and you would never know which they used. (People have tried to tell me just that.)

Hellmann or as I know it here in California, Best Foods. Never heard of Dukes…I really do not like Miracle Whip.
In the late ’60’s I moved to Arkansas for a short time. First shopping trip, there was no Best Foods to be found. DESPERATE I accosted the store mgr. How on earh could they not carry Best Foods. He laughed at me and mansplaned Hellmanns to me.
Don’t do it! It is a chasm too deep and wide!
