Crock-Pot Pulled Chicken
- 2 1/2 – 3 lbs boneless, skinless, chicken breast
- 3/4 Cup ketchup
- 1 1/4 Cup of your favorite barbecue sauce (I use Sweet Baby Ray’s, Original)
- 1 Tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 Tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 Tablespoon light brown sugar
- 1/2 Cup onion, chopped (I like Vidalia)
- 2 large cloves of garlic, minced
- 1/4 – 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (for less heat, use 1/4)
This chicken is also great for salads and bbq chicken pizza. See pizza recipe below!

Barbecue Chicken Pizza
- 1 Pizza Crust (I use Rhodes bread dough, pre-baked, ready to go)
- Pulled Chicken (desired amount)
- BBQ Sauce – Use your favorite brand or homemade
- Pineapple – Use desired amount *optional
- Bacon – Use desired amount *optional
Directions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (or follow directions on your store bought pizza crust). For the pizza above, I used a frozen loaf of Rhodes bread dough. I thawed the dough the fast way according to the directions on the bag and pre-baked the crust in a greased 13×9 baking dish. Once the dough/pizza crust was ready, I topped it with Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce, pulled chicken and lots of mozzarella cheese. Placed it in the oven on the middle rack and baked it for 15 mins. So Simple! So Good! *Pineapple and bacon are great on this pizza!

How many does the crockpot pulled chicken serve?
Murina
Can I make this on high for a shorter time?
Mary Neumann
Yes, Murina – it should only take 3-4 hours on high. Adjust cooking times according to how fast or slow your slow cooker, crock pot cooks.

I have always used frozen meat there are times when I forget to grab something out of the freezer for the next day and I’m like OK it’s gonna be 90° to 100 I really don’t wanna turn the oven on so I throw all my frozen meat and all the ingredients into the crockpot been doing it for years and we are all just fine

I've been cooking peppers and onions in the skillet on the grill a lot lately. I'll have to add jalapenos next time. Yum. I like cooking bacon that way too, although hot fat + open flame adds a nice element of danger. I used to get flank steak, but my husband got me to try the carne asada cut from our local market, and I prefer it. Not sure if it's thin-cut flank or skirt (I'll have to ask), but it looks like this

Cant wait to try! Yum! An FYI…food safety experts suggest never putting frozen food in a crock to cook. It is also on the USDA website too. Just wanted to let you know since you are telling people to do so. 🙂

Thank you, Karen, and thanks so much for the tip. I am all about safety first! I have read conflicting info on frozen meat in the slow cooker, but after reading an article on "Two Heathy Kitchens" I updated the recipe. Thank you!

Famoly loved it!

If I use frozen chicken, will I need to increase the time from 7-8 hours?

Has anyone put frozen chicken in the crock pot with all of the sauce on top of it? How long should I cook it for?
Danni Baird @ Silo Hill Farm
Well I don't know how I missed this one, but I did! I just made some pulled pork and it didn't turn out very well. I'm trying chicken next time and using this recipe. Like Amy…I use my crockpot all the time. Especially in the summer when I don't want to heat up the house! Thanks Mary!

For a crock pot cooker (almost exclusively, lol) this recipe is perfect, not to mention delicious!! Great tip for using frozen chicken, because I usually buy in bulk and freeze at least half of my chicken.. And your bonus ideas, Oh how i love BBQ pizza! Pinning as a new staple to my crock pot cooking repetoire 🙂 ~ Amy

Hi Amy – I just updated my post on using frozen chicken. "Quick note on using frozen meat in the crock-pot – For years I have used frozen chicken in the crock-pot, following recipes from other sites and bloggers. After doing further research, I would NOT do this, even if you have been cooking frozen meat in your slow cooker for years. This post, Is It Safe To Use Frozen Meat in Your Crockpot, from Two Healthy Kitchens, does an excellent job explaining why it is NOT." see above in my post.
